Testaccio

This all started from an image I took when I went to a local market in Testaccio, Italy.

This vignette took 5 hours to complete using Unreal 4 Engine and assets I created in Maya. I built the ceiling window, the fruit, and the trashcans in Maya. Everything else was built using simple objects in UE4.

The hardest challenge I had was getting the shadows to show up properly. I had to make sure the lightmap on the window mesh was high enough to cast detailed shadows, and the floor's lightmap was high enough to catch the shadows. Also, I had to make sure the window frame I created in Maya was thick enough to cast a nice shadow.

Another challenge was getting the Unreal mannequins to pose properly before converting them to a mesh.

A bonus reward to creating this vignette was learning about the scale and history of this Italian when compared to the traditional U.S. markets.

Pears and Bears Pub

This is a piece of my personal project where I wanted to recreate a dining area in medieval times that a player would run through. I started in the white box, and then wanted to fully art it out and give it detailed lighting.

This project took me about 6 hours in total since I found a couple of good asset packs that would work with my style.

The hardest part was getting the lighting to work with all the materials. Some materials were too reflective, and others would just be completely immune to light because of emissive values.

Overall It was a really fun project and I learned a lot about medieval/fantasy standards and culture.
